Used Car Dealer

June 25th, 2009

A used car dealer specializes in finding used vehicles to sell to their customers.  In the United States these dealers can be separate entities or part of a larger car dealership.  Purchasing a used car is a little different than buying a new automobile.  The vehicle has been previously driven, it has an ownership history, and it could have mechanical issues.  From a used car dealer you have more customer rights than if you were to purchase the vehicle from a private seller.  This is one reason going to any car dealer is often your best choice.
There is only one drawback to a car dealer.  They want to make as much profit as they can from the sale.  This is not a bad thing, but it can increase the used car price over what you would find with a private seller.  On the other hand you know that the dealer has had a mechanic overview the vehicle to determine what type of condition it is in.  In this way you could feel more confident about the car you are buying.
A private used car dealer not associated with a larger dealership can sometimes be less trustworthy than the dealership.  There are a few things you can do to make sure the vehicle you are interested in is in good shape.  You will want to examine the interior and exterior for general condition.  Second, you need to test drive the vehicle to determine if there are any mechanical problems.  Also look under the hood and underneath the car to spot any issues there may be.
Japanese cars that are imported from Japan used tend to be the best deal.  In Japan the vehicles are little driven, presenting you with a used car with low mileage.  Low mileage is one benefit you want from a used vehicle.  Furthermore, a vehicle that is not driven much has less potential to be in an accident.  The Carfax report will determine the accident history of a used Canter you want to purchase.  A used car dealer will need to give you this information.  It can help you make a decision on whether the vehicle is right for you.
To find a used Cube you are interested in you may have to check more than one used car dealer.  It is different when looking for a used automobile because the dealers have only what cars they could find to put on their lot.

Luxury versus Basic: The Lexus and Demio

June 22nd, 2009

Lexus, though it is not commonly known, belongs to Toyota.  Lexus is Toyota’s version of luxury.  The first Lexus appeared on the market in 1989 in the United States.  It took until 2005 for the Lexus to be offered in Japan as a luxury car. The Demio is a Mazda.  Mazda when compared to Lexus is a very basic vehicle.  The Demio was launched in 1996 as a station wagon.  The current model on the market was launched in 2007.  There are three body styles with this vehicle.  There is a 5 door hatchback, 4 door saloon, and 3 door hatchback.  The vehicle was created with either a manual or automatic.

The design of the Lexus typically offers a fastback profile, lower set grill, and upgraded interior options.  For example, Lexus is known for having leather heated seats, air conditioning, cruise control, automatic seats, and automatic windows. Lexus also offers internal temperature options and more.
When you compare the Lexus and Demio you are looking at two different cars that make it almost impossible to compare unless you want a Isuzu Elf.  Used Japanese Lexus are more affordable than your new model, even when there are accessories.  The factor you must consider when going for a used Lexus is the devaluation.  Any time you drive a new car off a lot the car instantly loses value.  Lexus tends to hold their value better than more basic vehicles.  In this case, the vehicle can still be costly compared to a used Demio like used Cresta.

Since Mazda Demio tends to have non leather seats, basic interior options, and a quality design you can expect used Demio’s to be reasonably priced.  Demio tends more towards a family car.  Small families can fit in the four door hatchback, but you also have the option of a two door vehicle if you don’t have a family.
Lexus sells a range of models.  The SUV is a great family car except for the gas mileage.  They can be a bit more expensive with the lower gas mileage.  Still, they are overall more comfortable.  When choosing a used car comfort as well as operating costs is most likely important to you.
So whether you want a basic or luxury vehicle you have the option of the Demio or Lexus, respectively.  Japanese used cars are made to last for several years, allowing you to find the model you want.

Removing Unwanted Personalizations

June 21st, 2009

You fell in love with the used Corona Premio at the local car lot and you cannot wait to get it home.  Once you do you are faced with one small dilemma: how do you get someone else’s personalizations off of your car?  Bumper stickers, window tinting, and pinstripes are all reminders of someone else who owned the car.  You could just cover the bumper stickers up with well more bumper stickers, but that really does not work for you.  Instead, there are ways of getting these personalizations off your car.

Bumper stickers are actually the easiest items to remove from the bumper of your used Caldina Wagon or other family car that you picked up.  You might actually be able to peel the sticker off of the bumper on a very warm, sunny day.  Grab a corner and slowly, tediously, pull the sticker free.  If the sun does not want to cooperate, you can use a heat gun or hairdryer to warm the glue on the sticker.  The older the sticker the slower you will have to go and you may have to keep the bumper sticker tight as you pull it away to keep it from ripping.  You can use a solvent to remove the sticker, such as Goo Gone and other citrus based cleaners.  These will not harm any underlying paint.  If they do not work, move to a stronger solvent.

Pinstripes are a little trickier to remove as they can be painted on the cheap Mitsubishi or taped on.  The tape variety of pin striping can be removed using the same method as the bumper sticker.  You can also try scraping them off with a credit card which is less harsh on your paint than other scraping tools.  Any residual glue can be removed using Goo Gone.  If the pinstripes are painted on Toyota Crown you will have to repaint the car to remove them.

Finally, window tinting can be removed with a simple razor blade although the process is tedious.  It is best to start with the side windows and work your way around.  Do not use a razor blade on any windows that have defroster lines in them however, as the blade can damage the line.  Instead, spray your back window with water and then place a plastic bag over the window.  Spray a mixture of ammonia and water onto the plastic until it adheres the plastic bag to the tinting film.  Let this sit for about a half hour and then peel the plastic bag away.  It should take the tinting with it.  Any residual tint can be removed with a soft cloth and more ammonia or even Goo Gone.

Beware Of Air Bag Fraud

June 17th, 2009

When you buy a Japanese used car you need to make sure that the air bag in the car is working properly, especially if you find out that the air bag has previously been deployed.  There is currently a concern over air bag fraud and your used Japanese vehicle is not immune to this shady practice.  What happens is that unscrupulous auto shops will replace a deployed air bag with a dummy air bag and when your Japanese used car is in an accident with one of these dummy air bags, someone could get seriously hurt.

According to industry experts, one out of every 25 used vehicles that have been in accidents was found to have a dummy replacement air bag.  These air bags are traditionally stolen from another car or have been salvaged from a ruined car.  They may not match the one that was in your used Japanese car, if there is even one in the car.  Some consumers have found things in the air bag slot that shouldn’t even be there, such as paper towels, packing peanuts, or other items.  Most people have no idea that their air bag has not been properly replaced until they need it.

You can protect yourself and your Japanese vehicle very easily from air bag fraud.  The first thing you should do when you buy your used Japanese vehicle is ask for a Carfax history report.  The report will tell you whether or not the car has been salvaged or been certified as a junk car.  It will also tell you whether or not the car has been in an accident and if the air bag was deployed.  If you find out that it was you should have the vehicle inspected closely.  Even if the bag has never been deployed in an accident, you should have it checked out to make sure the whole system is working properly.

Even if cheap Mazda seems to be all right after reading a Carfax report, take it to an ASE certified air bag mechanic prior to buying the car.  They will inspect the entire system for you and pass or fail based on whatever they find.  Additionally, watch your dashboard lights.  Your air bag light should appear briefly when you turn your Toyota Ipsum on and then go out.  If that light remains on or flashes there could be a problem with the system that needs to be inspected.  If the light never comes on, that is also an indication that the bulb was removed and that the air bag could very well be missing.

Used Car Warranties

June 9th, 2009

One of the big things today in the used car sale world is whether or not a used car warranty is worth having on your vehicle.  It does not matter if you are driving a used Toyota Corolla or something else, we need to remember that when we go to get a new used car the salespeople are only going to tell us consumers what we want to hear when it comes to the warranty.  Warranties do not cover everything, and that is the one trick of the trade car salespeople will get you with every time.  And because many less than honest dealers are getting repairs on vehicles made under the warranty using false pretenses, it is no wonder manufacturers are starting to deny more and more repair claims.

As a car owner you are responsible for reading your original purchase and warranty contract and understanding what is and is not covered.  You are the one that must keep up that scheduled maintenance of the vehicle as listed in your ownerユs manual.  If you do this when you purchase your car new or used you will not have any problems getting repairs made under the specifications of the warranty on your car.  You remain honest with them and they will take care of you and your vehicle every time.

In addition to understanding what the used car warranty on your cheap Toyota or Toyota Sprinter entails to keep it in force you also need to be aware of what the warranty is going to cover.  The manufacturer will take responsibility on things such as the engine, suspension, computer components, transmission, steering, instruments, chassis wiring, emission control devices and more.  All of these items will have varied coverage based on the length of time you have your car and how many miles are on it.  Things that wear out through normal use, such as hoses and belts, are not going to be covered.  These are your responsibility.

Used car warranty coverage varies just like it does with a new car warranty.  If you participate in a used car sales that offers you a used car warranty, make sure you know exactly what is covered and what is not before you drive off that lot.  Additionally, it is good to make sure the dealer has all of your current information so that if there are any recalls that need to be addressed they can contact you in a timely fashion.
